What's made the difference in your career success?

  • Connections.  Working with as many people as possible.  If a director likes you, they will be relieved to have that option if you audition for them later.

  • Keeping at it, brushing yourself off and trying again. Never overanalyze why you didn't get a role. There are so many factors that are completely out of your control. Do your best and forget the audition. Don't even talk about auditions with your family back home. They will never understand and then you have to go over how it went, if you got called back, if you got  the job, etc. Also, when you do make headway, follow up with that casting director or agent. If they like you, keep at them. Send postcards.
  • Success is how you view it to be. It's not about what show you are in, the fame you have or how much you make. If you continue to be creative, it will come to you. Again- of the people I know who have been nominated or won Tony awards- they keep themselves busy with other creative pursuits as well, and believe in something larger than themselves. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE YOU!

  • A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE
  • When I'm lucky, I'm lucky, when I'm not I'm not....being happy either way is the trick to a fulfilled life as an actor...

  • My versatility.  Granted I am trying to not be pigeon-holed anymore as a swing and even sometimes as a dancer, you will always work if you are versatile meaning actor, singer, and dancer (these days musician too!)
  •  Just time in the saddle, making connections, and keeping the doors opened.

  • Patience.  Going to every audition!!! Being prepared!!! Studying with great teachers!!

  • Being able to teach voice and be picky about the jobs I take. If you don't say no to the things you dont want to do then you will never get the things you really want to do. Find integrity in your work and it will lead to the next step even if saying no seems so ridiculous.

  • Work ethic and drive makes quite a difference. I try to audition and take classes as much as possible. In everyday things, I always strive to do my best and to have good working relationships with people. If the work environment is pleasant, chances are you will find yourself working with the same people again.
