Where do you go to warm-up for auditions in the city?

  • Lots of studios where you go to audition rent out rooms soley for the purpose of warming up and  they seem to be really good deals. like $5 for like 20 minutes or something.
  • Mostly I sing at the top of my lungs as the subway train pulls into the station, because no one can hear it.
  • I find an empty practice room or sneak into the stairwell. I have a place for every audition studio. Chelsea has that back stairwell, equity has a basement if you go down to the lobby and are nice to the door guys, they will let you down there, etc.
  • Japas 55, a karaoke bar on 55th St. between 8th and 9th Ave. has small, private rooms you can go in for an hour for CHEAP. You can pick any song, (on your own) and transpose it to the key of your choice with the remote control.

  • Harloquin studios is the cheapest, but it's a sh-- hole.
  • The best deal is at Machiko studios across from Equity.  You can get a ten hour practice card for $60.  You can go in and use a room for 15 minutes at a time too and your card ends up lasting a very long time .  A very good investment.

  • My fave: the downtown 1 train stop at 28th street...get off at the 1st car....wait til the people exit. no one can enter on that end. the express trains go by, and no one on the either side can hear you singing.

  • Ripley-Grier has great, little studios for competitive pricing. If you book the day of (i.e. just walk in and see if there are any available) it is much cheaper.

  • The streets!! No one seems to care!!!
